After high school, it was a toss-up whether to pursue a career in illustration or photography. Illustration was the more imaginative, self-expressive route, and I felt had a lot to say, back then. Photography was also the more expensive route, since we were still using film, not to mention the toxic chemicals. Then my Pentax K1000 was stolen.
Following an accident in 2009, coupled with the downturn in publishing and the advent of digital cameras, I began revisiting my old love, through mundane, natural and urban surroundings. Flowers were the first thing, and I became like a bee, zooming in closer and closer… Digital doesn’t allow for mysterious accidents like film, but it has it’s advantages. Something nice about being a passive observer of that which typically goes unnoticed.
Taking pictures and walking go together and I enjoy being a passive, passing archivist, collecting visual momentos overlooked by cyclists, joggers and twitterers, in this city of transience. These are some curated groupings from my huge hoard. All photos were taken with a simple, point n shoot pocket camera.
